BYD continues introducing new electric vehicles to the market with significant updates across its Sealion series. The Chinese automaker’s latest moves include the Hungarian launch of the Sealion 07, suspension improvements for the Sealion 6 in Australia, and the upcoming release of the Sealion 7.
The Sealion 07, now renamed Sealion 7 for the Hungarian market, launched on February 5, 2025, marking BYD’s sixth model in the country. Starting at 2,004,000 Hungarian forints ($51,260), the vehicle comes in three versions: Comfort, Design ADW, and Excellence AWD. This launch follows BYD’s January 2024 agreement to build its first European passenger car plant in Szeged, Hungary, which is expected to be operational within three years from January 30, 2024.
In Australia, BYD is addressing driver feedback with updated suspension on new Sealion 6 models. David Smitherman, CEO of BYD distributor EVDirect, confirmed these changes aim to improve the vehicle’s stability at higher speeds. “We have engineers here all the time… certainly all Australian feedback is well received,” Smitherman noted. The revised models will arrive in March 2025, though existing owners won’t have retrofit options.
The upcoming Sealion 7 brings impressive technical specifications to BYD’s lineup. The Performance variant delivers 390kW of power and 690Nm of torque, while the Premium model offers 230kW and 380Nm. Both versions use an 82.56kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery, with the Premium and Performance variants achieving driving ranges of 482km and 456km respectively.

The Premium model comes equipped with features including a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen, wireless phone charging, and a 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system. The interior features heated and ventilated front seats, while safety systems include autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
