A failing battery in your Ford vehicle could leave you stranded at a red light or lose power while driving. That’s why Ford Motor Company is recalling 272,817 vehicles in the US.

“Battery failure can result in a loss of electrical accessories, including the hazard lights, or cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash,” warns the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall covers two popular models: the Bronco Sport (2021-2023) and Maverick (2022-2023) built between February 2020 and October 2022. The NHTSA reports about 1% of these vehicles may experience battery degradation and sudden failure.

Ford CEO Jim Farley acknowledged past quality control issues while emphasizing the company’s commitment to vehicle safety and quality maintenance improvements.

What This Means for Ford Owners:

  • Ford will replace the battery for free
  • Ford plans to send notification letters around February 3, 2025
  • Dealers can provide loaner cars if needed
  • Previous repair costs may be refunded

This isn’t Ford’s first attempt at fixing these battery problems. Earlier, they tried updating the car’s computer system. When that didn’t work, they found the real problem: defective batteries of a specific type. Now they’re replacing all batteries of that type with higher-quality replacements.

Want to check if your vehicle needs the battery replaced? Visit NHTSA.gov or use their “SaferCar” app. Your local Ford dealer can answer questions about getting the free repair or a loaner car.
