Lidl Northern Ireland has recalled its Deluxe Sriracha Cheddar Cheese Wedge after finding Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recall affects 150g packages with a best-before date of May 11, 2025.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) states that “Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhea.” The Food Safety Authority of Ireland confirms that symptoms can appear between 3 to 70 days after eating contaminated food.
Health officials identify these high-risk groups for Listeria infection:
- Adults over 65 years old
- Pregnant women and their unborn babies
- Infants under one month
- People with weakened immune systems
“In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis,” the FSA warns. They have issued a Product Recall Information Notice to alert consumers and local authorities.
Lidl has placed point-of-sale notices where the product was sold. The notice explains: “If you have purchased the above product, do not consume it. Instead, please return the product to a Lidl store for a full refund, with or without a receipt.”
