A popular brand of dark chocolate nutrition bars is being pulled from store shelves because they might contain milk – a discovery that led to eleven consumer reports of allergic reactions.

Lifestyle Evolution Inc. announced on January 10, 2025, that their NuGo Dark Chocolate Chip and Dark Chocolate Pretzel bars could be dangerous for people who can’t have milk. These nutrition bars are commonly used as snacks by many people.

Two types of bars are affected:

  • NuGo Dark Chocolate Chip (item number 52101)
  • NuGo Dark Pretzel with Sea Salt (item number 52901)

You’ll find these bars sold alone or in family-size packs of 12 or 18 bars. If you bought any with best-by dates from December 14 to December 23, 2025, you’ll want to take a closer look.

For someone with a milk allergy or severe sensitivity, this could lead to serious or life-threatening allergic reactions. The company received eleven reports of allergic reactions from consumers who ate these bars.

Your local stores are already on it. Big retailers like Amazon, Costco, Wegmans, and Giant Eagle have cleared these bars from their shelves. The company’s testing confirmed what consumers reported – there’s milk in these bars, even though it’s not on the label.
