One of the worst things about social media is cyberbullying. It affects the users' psychological health very adversely, leaving lasting impact like depression, insecurity and sometimes even drives one to suicide or to its brink

There are numerous aspects to cyberbullying. Beyond that, social media can often expose one to things that can be really harmful for one's mind especially if they are minor, and social media addiction is a dangerous issue as well.

In such a context, the Australian government has banned the usage of social media for children under 16, and this ban received a wide range of mixed reactions.

The support for this ban over the country is huge, and it received a good majority in the parliament as well, however many consider this ban as a step against basic freedom.
Some of the users claimed that there are many ways one can go up in social media despite the ban, the country's government, led by PM Anthony Albanese, has thus urged the media platforms to take responsibility.
Implementation of this ban is yet to be done and there are details still to be worked on, but this ban sparked concerns among the representatives of the social media platforms.
