HP Hood LLC, the company producing Lactaid milk, recently announced the voluntary recall of five units of 96 oz Lactaid milk containers across 27 US states, including the tri-state area. The reason stated by the company was the potential inclusion of almond pieces in the product that had not been declared on the label.
The FDA following the company’s announcement stated that people with a severe allergy or sensitivity to almonds may risk a serious or potentially fatal allergic reaction if they consume these products. To date, no illness has been reported related to the recall.

The affected 96 oz Lactaid milk containers were shipped to retailers and wholesalers from the 5th of September 2024 to the 8th of September 2024 in the following states:

According to the FDA, the recall applies to a limited number of 96 oz plastic containers of refrigerated Lactaid milk with the code 51-4109 P2 and a use-by date in early December.
Lactaid milk varieties affected by the recall were the following:
- 96 oz whole milk: Expiration dates between November 22 and December 4, 2024.
- 96 oz Lactaid 2% milk: Expiration dates from November 24 to December 4, 2024.
- 96 oz Lactaid 1% milk: Expiration dates between November 24 and December 5, 2024.
- 96 oz fat-free milk: Expiration dates on November 24 and 25, 2024.
- 96 oz 2% calcium-fortified milk: Expiration date December 1, 2024.
The issue was identified due to the routine maintenance programs that revealed the possibility of minimal amounts of almonds in certain batches of the Lactaid milk varieties.
Consumers who purchased the product can return it to the retail store where they bought it for a full refund or exchange, or call Hood Consumer Affairs at 800-242-2423 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time.
The recall announcement was made on September 20, 2024, by HP Hood LLC as a precautionary measure for consumers with severe nut sensitivities, who could be at risk of an egregious allergic reaction if they were to consume them.
Furthermore, this recall reflects the company’s commitment to consumer safety, and the company is expected to resolve the issue and plans to return the product to shelves by the earliest of dates.
