The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced a recall of approximately 1,152 pounds of frozen, dried Siluriformes fish products imported from Vietnam. The recall was issued on February 25, 2025, after routine surveillance activities identified that the products were produced by an establishment not eligible to export to the United States.

C&T Produce Wholesale Inc., doing business as L&V Food Supply in Houston, Texas, is recalling peppered dried catfish products that were not presented for mandatory import reinspection upon arrival in the country.

The recalled products are packaged in 2-pound cardboard boxes labeled “Peppered Dried CATFISH” and lack both USDA inspection marks and establishment numbers. These fish products were distributed to retail locations across nine states: California, Florida, Illinois, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington.

“We routinely conduct recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers,” stated the FSIS in their official announcement.

The problem was first discovered during routine FSIS surveillance at a California retail store. So far, no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products have been reported, but health officials remain concerned that some products may still be in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers.
